Monica Llorente was born in Bogotá, Colombia. Her work as a painter focuses on the development of methods of mark making that lead to the creation of unanticipated images. Monica’s creative process is intuitive and repetitive and relies heavily on the execution of rules and procedures that produce layered complex pieces. Her inspiration comes from nature, music, images from outer space, geometry and meditation. She received an MFA Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 2022 and BFA from Los Andes University in Bogotá, in 2009. Monica has exhibited in Colombia as well as in the U.S.A. One person shows: Inquisiciones Topográficas at Neebex Galería in Bogotá in 2017. Some group shows include: OUTRO: World Building Within and Outside the Studio at SVA Chelsea Gallery in New York City in 2022, Parallels virtual exhibition SVA Gallery in 2020, Encounters among flowers and shadows at Espacio Alterno Galería and Together, apart, rearranged at Neebex Galería both in 2019 in Bogotá. She was part of the International Contemporary Art Festival in Manizales, Colombia in 2017 and a virtual version in 2020. She was awarded the Studio / Residency at Cooperartes – Uniandinos program in Bogotá in 2017 and attended the School of Visual Arts Painting and Mixed Media Residency program in 2018. She lives and works in New York City. I’m also a Teaching Artist and Educator at museums in NYC.
